Hey guys, it’s been a while since my last update. I went to Fashion Week recently, which I hadn’t mentioned before because, well, I hadn’t gone yet! So, I got this email inviting me to shoot a show, and of course, I jumped at the chance to go to New York and try something new. I brought Charlie to shoot with me, got him a press pass, and also got one for my sister Lexie to do content for me. My mom tagged along for fun, and our friend Preston was there shooting another show. Before the main event, we went to this Fashion Week mixer put on by B&H Photo. I can’t remember the exact name, but it was basically a photographer’s networking event. I managed to snag four plus-ones for my crew. The place was packed with two photo areas – one with a backdrop and another specifically set up for photos. It was so busy, just full of photographers. We didn’t stay too long because it was just so crowded, and I didn’t recognize anyone there.

Hi Cassidy, I LOVEE your work!! I have a story that isn’t so much wedding related but studio related. I was trying a program Capture one for a first time on a very old mac. My camera was tethered to it, so I began shooting. As i was shooting the computer froze. I thought it was just an ol good freeze for a hot second. The computer didn’t unfreeze for 15 minutes. The client was waiting so I had to unplug the camera and try to shoot without teather. As I tried to turn on the camera it didn’t work. The computer failure had to do something with it. I tried everything … turning it on and off, taking the battery out. Nothing worked. So, my client had to go home because I didn’t have a backup camera body. The camera turned back on after few hours.

Cassidy:

If you’re listening and you don’t know what it is. It’s basically you are shooting on a cable or with like a Bluetooth little plugin to your camera and then it Bluetooths or tethers through a wire your photos immediately into Lightroom, onto your computer, and then one step further is you can literally have it hooked up to a monitor to where every photo you take then pops up onto Lightroom and then pops up onto the screen so that your clients can see it. A lot of the time like if you’re watching like America’s Next Top Model or something or like a fashion show where they’re doing these Studio shoots. Like on the Kardashians I’ll watch and Kim’s in a photo shoot and they’re tethering, and Kim can see all the photos on a screen or whatever so yeah that’s what tethering is in case you didn’t know but yeah that’s very unfortunate that tethering just led to camera getting absolutely blocked. And it sucks that you didn’t have a backup so then your client had to leave that’s like so embarrassing.

My Godox V1 hates me. For some reason, the hot shoe mount has snapped off the flash/my camera mid-shoot multiple times now. I ordered a replacement part from Amazon and replaced it myself (which I have done successfully before). The next wedding, I started using my flash before the ceremony and it started making this awful popping noise and sounded like it was about to explode. The videographer ran up to me and told me to take it off my camera immediately. Thankfully, I had 2 extra and I now carry 3 at all times.

Cassidy:

I feel like together as photographers we need to make a stand against small hot shoe mounts. Like people don’t talk enough about the fact that hot shoe mounts are so small and your flash is huge! It just like doesn’t make sense how it would stay on like it doesn’t make sense. It’s just not designed well it’s not like the flash is so heavy and then if you go to Portrait heaven forbid you switch your orientation it feels like that thing is about to snap right off. Every time it doesn’t matter what camera I’m using, what flash, what camera body it’s all the same. It’s just like a hot shoe is just not designed well. It’s funny because I feel like the technology for flashes and everything have obviously progressed crazy over the years, And there’s a lot of new tech but the actual design itself as far as on-camera mounted flashes are concerned that whole concept has not really changed much at all.

My friend who is a photographer was shooting a family session and her camera died during a shoot, so she finished the session ON HER PHONE. So, there’s literal iPhone photos in their gallery 😅

Cassidy:

It’s so funny that you just said that because I was thinking to myself when I read this submission like this is something Cassidy would do. Well, I think I would ask them I would be like hey do you want to keep going I have my phone. Do you think you could actually deliver a gallery that just had iPhone photos in? Yes, I think I would really work in portrait mode and Lightroom has that new feature where you can like really blur the background so I think I would be able to. I don’t think I’d make them look obviously As Nice and I don’t think you’d be able to print the photos by any means, but I do think I could if I worked hard enough on the images, I could make them look pretty good!

I was doing film for a Hindu wedding which usually is a LONG (3 hours for this one) ceremony. Part of the ceremony involves a fire being lit in the during the whole event and because it was in a tiny room, it got HOT in there. As you probably guessed, both of my cameras overheated at certain points, and I ended up missing big chunks of the ceremony coverage. After a couple days I plucked up the courage to tell the bride and apologies, and while she was understanding she was so disappointed. Did I mention she was the sister of a close friend, so I see her often?? Kill me please!

Cassidy:

Okay, so I have another invention I’m over here you guys can like steal all my ideas. Let’s say like a cool wrap for your camera and ice you know like those things you wrap around your head when you get your wisdom teeth taken out something like that. Like a wrap around your camera to cool it off do you know those mugs that they make that are like an insulated plastic mug that have water inside of them you can stick in the freezer? why can’t we make a clear plastic camera case that’s able to be filled with water or what about just an insulated camera cage that is kind of like a Yeti around your camera? Because I mean we don’t really want to put water next to the camera that’s I mean you’re not though it’s going to be insulated!
