Life Update: New Jersey, Weddings, and a Creamy Keyboard?!

Okay, where do we even begin? I just got back from the Adobe Mobile Creator Summit in San Francisco which was so fun. We were at the Adobe HQ, doing presentations and roundtables, and I got to meet so many cool people. Some of it’s under NDA, so I can’t spill everything, but let’s just say it was inspiring.

From there, I flew straight to New Jersey (on a red eye… RIP) and shot a wedding for one of Charlie’s cousins in Pennsylvania. Gorgeous inn, total farmhouse-meets-classic vibes. Then I came home for a rare week off, but don’t worry, I still shot two weddings back-to-back last weekend. Felt Mansion on Friday (which has 25 ROOMS by the way), and then a Sunday wedding at a modern venue here in Michigan. I was running on like 80% energy by the second wedding, but honestly that first one creatively inspired me so much that I started trying new poses and settings again on Sunday. It was one of those weekends that reminded me why I love this job.

Also yes, I got a Sony a9iii (justifying it by saying it’s cheaper than buying 6 hard drives to store a7rV files, math is mathing, okay?), and a drone, and a creamy Godzilla-themed keyboard (because of course I did), and a flash trigger that’s changed my direct flash game. And I launched a POSING COURSE that I’ve been working on since January!! It’s live, it’s under $300, and you can finish it in a weekend. Go grab it if you’re in the thick of busy season and want to refresh your posing!

And the best part? I landed a travel brand deal that I am SO excited about. It’s been a long time coming and just feels like a full-circle moment. I’ll be traveling for it at the end of July, stay tuned for content in August!

10 Easy Content Ideas for a Busy Photographer

Wedding Photographer Things I’ve Been Thinking About

Before we jump into content ideas, a few things I’ve been mulling over from all these recent weddings:

  • Pre-ceremony snack + an Alani = lifesaving combo. Especially when it’s 95° and you’re shooting 10-hour days.
  • I don’t know if I like first looks anymore. I used to be their biggest fan, but lately they feel like they drain my couples. It’s too much, too fast, too early in the day. I’m leaning toward no first look, do separate party photos before, then couples photos after the ceremony. More chill.
  • Romanticize EVERYTHING. The couple, the shots, the location, all of it. It helps so much with creative energy.
  • If you don’t prompt or instigate the photo you want, it won’t happen. That’s on you. Speak up and create the moment.

Social Media Trends for Photographers Right Now

Two things I’m seeing trending on photographer IG right now:

  1. “Day 1 of posting until I’m booked out” works great with a strong single image. Try it with your BEST photo!
  2. Pricing transparency videos, break down your packages, show your work, and let people in. These get saved and shared like crazy.

10 Easy Content Ideas for a Busy Photographer

Now let’s get into the good stuff, the 10 content ideas that are low-maintenance, low-effort, high reward. These are perfect for batching or repurposing and don’t require anything fancy!

1. Come Shoot With Me Vlog

Little clips of your day, prepping, shooting, editing, etc. Voiceover or not. These take a little more time but are always fun and worth it.

2. BTS + Final Photo

This template never fails. Take a behind-the-scenes video and match it with the final shot. Add a little on-screen text to give it purpose, throw a trending audio on it, and post it!

3. Quick Client Tips

Use footage from an existing shoot and drop client-facing tips in a voiceover or with text. Great for value-based content that helps your couples prep.

4. Photographer POV

Use your Ray-Ban Meta Glasses or even your phone, people LOVE seeing what it’s like to shoot from behind the camera. Bonus points for sneaks of the final gallery.

5. Editing Time Lapse

Set up your phone or use QuickTime player, record your screen while you edit, speed it up, and boom, instant content!

6. One Photo, Many Poses

Showcase how you can get 4+ completely different images from the same spot. Wide, close-up, side angle, detail, etc. Great for proving your gallery variety.

7. Client Testimonial

Screenshot a review or sweet message, layer it over some b-roll or shoot footage. Not always the most viral, but it builds trust!

8. Gear Favorites

Pack your camera bag and film it while you do. Talk through your favorite gear, or just use on-screen text. Content you’re already living = easy content.

9. Mistakes You Made as a New Photographer

Talk to the camera or use b-roll while listing out mistakes you made early on. Super relatable, super easy.

10. Most Underrated Photo

Pick a favorite photo that didn’t get enough love. Show the BTS or just post the shot with a little story or caption. Everyone loves an underdog!

Tips for Making These Ideas Happen

  • Film in the car. Doesn’t have to be cute or fancy.
  • Reuse what you already have. Seriously. Pull from your BTS folder and repurpose it.
  • Don’t film for more than 10 minutes. If it takes longer than that, it’s probably not worth it.
  • Batch when you can. Pre-plan a few voiceovers or ideas you want to do and record a few at once.
  • Film a trend at a wedding dinner. I’ve been doing this and it’s a fun, low-stakes way to get content without interrupting the day!

That’s it for today’s episode, lots of ideas, a lot of chatting, and hopefully some fresh motivation for your busy season content strategy. I’ll see you guys next week for an advice column episode (for real this time)! Til then, keep romanticizing your job, don’t forget your Alani, and I’ll talk to you soon!
