Creating strong photography galleries is super important! It is a great way to showcase your work and it’s a good way to create a good first impression. In this blog, I go over how to create a strong gallery, how to deliver them effectively, and what to do after you deliver the gallery.

How to Create a Strong Photography Gallery?

One of the first things is having variation! Personally, when I think of a strong gallery, I think of it as an Instagram post. When you are in the visionary stage think about it as an Instagram post for me, I want every single photo to feel and look different to keep my audience interested, right? So, the same goes for your galleries. You want to create visual interest within your galleries so that every photo speaks for itself. There’s nothing worse than seeing a gallery that has the same focal length, same cropping, and same pose. Having variation within your gallery is so important!

Why Do You Need a Strong Photography Gallery?

Having a strong gallery shows your clients and your social media followers your work. It makes a first impression on someone; it shows your ability to tell a story and capture moments. Think about when you get an inquiry and you send an example gallery, don’t you want that to be your best gallery? Don’t you feel like almost all your galleries should feel like your best gallery? You should be able to have a gallery and feel comfortable sending any of your galleries to anyone.

How Do You Make a Strong Photography Galleries?

It starts with shooting! I really want you to think, when you are shooting are you getting enough variation? As I mentioned before variation is what makes your gallery strong. When you get the shot you want, have the discipline to be like, okay I already got this shot, how can I change this up on my end to add variation to the gallery? Ask yourself can I switch to landscape, can I push in for a closeup, can I step to the side a little bit to get a bit of a different lighting, can I move my couple to do something else to vary the pose slightly, so that you have a new set of images within your gallery.

How To Deliver Galleries Effectively

First of all, this is a little tip and trick for you guys, make sure you deliver the gallery to your clients before you post them on social media! I know you are excited to post it and for people to see your work, but the person who’s most excited is your CLIENT! Make sure your client has access to the gallery before you post them. When you are delivering galleries number one, we are doing it in a timely manner. Number two our galleries are carefully constructed, remember we want our galleries to be strong, they are pieces of art. Number three you are attaching an email to your gallery, make sure you add a review link in your final gallery delivery email! Make sure to have a final strong gallery which starts by having strong previews. Make sure to use the same mindset you used to pick your previews, so you can deliver a strong beautiful gallery.

What To Do After a Gallery Is Delivered?

After delivering what I like to do is create a couple of social media posts from that gallery. Mainly just one post I would say, maybe two if you like to batch and schedule out but definitely one! when you’re creating a social media post from a gallery you’re picking and choosing the best photos that are going to ultimately tell the story to your audience, so I like to create a few posts from that. If I have some videos from that wedding or session, I will take those videos and create one or two reels just to have content. It’s easier when it’s top of mind like right after you deliver a gallery those photos are on your mind so it’s a good idea to try to get some of that content done while you’re currently thinking about the photos like in your head you just delivered the gallery so you know which images of the gallery you liked. This would be a good time to pick and choose the photos you want to have for your Instagram post. The next step would be blogging that Gallery as well, so blogging for SEO whatever it is that your blogging strategy is, that’s something to do after you deliver your galleries!
