As a professional photographer, one of the questions I frequently get asked is about my preferred camera lenses. Well, today I’m going to share with you my personal favorites and why I love them. This ranking is based on factors such as weight, autofocus, versatility, background blur, distortion, and of course, how often I reach for it!
My Favorite Camera Lenses and Why
Favorite Camera Lenses – 50mm f/1.8
My all-time favorite lens is the 50mm f/1.8. This prime lens is really lightweight, making it my go-to for most shoots. It’s portable and doesn’t wear me down, even on those long shooting days. Besides its manageable weight, the 50mm f/1.8 is also amazing when it comes to autofocus. It’s fast and accurate, allowing me to capture precise images without any fuss but what I truly love about the 50mm f/1.8 is its versatility. It’s perfect for everything from portraits to landscapes and everything in between. This means that I don’t have to keep switching lenses during a shoot, which is a huge time-saver!
85mm f/1.4
Another lens that I can’t do without is the 85mm f/1.4. This one is a beast when it comes to creating beautiful background blur or ‘bokeh’. It allows me to isolate subjects and create that dreamy, blurred background that we all love in portrait photography. Plus, it’s fantastic for low-light shooting, thanks to its wide aperture. However, the 85mm f/1.4 does have one disadvantage – distortion. The longer focal length can sometimes distort facial features when shooting close-up portraits. However, with a bit of practice and the right shooting distance, this is something that can be managed.
24-70mm f/2.8
Last but definitely not least, let’s talk about the 24-70mm f/2.8. This is the lens that I use most often. The range it offers is perfect for a variety of scenarios – from wide-angle shots to close-ups. It’s also relatively light and compact for a zoom lens, which is always a bonus! So, there you have it, my favorite camera lenses and why I love them! Remember, the best lens for you will depend on your specific needs and shooting style. So, take the time to try out different lenses and discover your own favorites.
